In 2024, the community of Buller called on national politicians to address the crisis threatening their local health services. This petition builds on their declaration and lets all New Zealanders join the demand for a better health system that delivers care for everyone, addresses current inequities and provides the health workforce we need.

AOTEAROA / NEW ZEALAND'S HEALTH SYSTEM IS IN CRISIS

We urge the House of Representatives to act urgently to:

  • Fix this crisis for all New Zealanders.

  • Address the disparities for Māori and rural and low-income communities.

  • Allocate the resources needed to train, recruit and retain more nurses, midwives, doctors, specialists, healthcare assistants, and other health workers.

  • Meet its obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and protect Māori health, in consultation with iwi and hapu.
